Representatives of Academic Enterprise
I came to work at UTMB shortly after graduating from Texas A&M University in 2007. When I started here, I worked in Operations in Provost Finance where I served as a liaison to departments, developed budgets, analyzed financials and prepared variance analyses. I currently work as a Senior Financial Analyst in Administrative Support Group Three (ASG-3): Departments of Surgery and Pathology, Comprehensive Cancer Center, Center for Biodefense & Emerging Infectious Disease, and the Willed Body Program. My job entails both clinical and financial reporting, budgeting, analysis of financial and clinical activities, and additional fiscal duties.
I am very honored to be serving as one of your representatives on the EAC. I am excited to work together with other EAC members, employees, and leadership, to create a positive environment to effectively identify and proactively meet employee needs.
“You must be the change you wish to see in the world.” Mahatma Gandhi
I started with UTMB in July 1996 and I have a total of 15 years of service. I have worked in the Budget Office, Payroll Office, Project Team to Implement People Soft, Provost Office and the School of Nursing. I am currently the Senior Business Coordinator for the School of Nursing. I am responsible for the Human Resources, Administrative and Payroll functions for the School of Nursing. I’ve had the opportunity to meet many great people at UTMB throughout my career. I have a passion for helping and educating individuals to be able to utilize their skills to the fullest.
I would like the opportunity to participate in the Employee Advisory Council because I can offer a variety of viewpoints based on the various areas I have had an opportunity to work in these past 15 years at UTMB. As a team, I believe we can make a difference and be able to meet needs of employees across the institution.
I am proud to say that I have been employed at UTMB for 18 years. During that time, I have had the fortune of working in all areas related to the Mission of UTMB – Clinical, Educational, and Research. I currently work for Steve Mueller in Administrative Service Group 7 (ASG-7). I am a Business Manager for the following areas in the School of Medicine: Department of Psychiatry, Department of Pharmacology & Toxicology, Center for Addiction Research, Institute for Translational Sciences, General Clinical Research Center, and the Sealy Center for Molecular Medicine. I am responsible for the development and financial management of budgets, financial analysis and forecasting, account reconciliation, financial reporting, grants management, and supervision of support staff. I have a business administration education and experience in the organization and management of large projects.
In my years here at UTMB, I have experienced many professional challenges and triumphs. I participated in the recovery of UTMB during the aftermath of hurricane Ike. Together with my supervisors and colleagues, we were able to relocate our offices after they were completely flooded and open new clinics in Galveston and on the mainland after they were also ruined. I believe that the health and well being of our patients and fellow employees is very important to the success of this wonderful university.
I have had the opportunity to serve on a variety of committees, and work with others to initiate positive changes at our University. Together with one of my colleagues, I taught classes in the use of PeopleSoft related to Financial Management. I listen to people’s concerns and/or suggestions and provide assistance and advice when asked. My husband, John, and I have one son and 2 grandsons. We have had the joy of offering our home to 9 foster children during our 23 year marriage. I have a real desire to learn new things, share knowledge whenever possible, and provide assistance to anyone who needs it. I genuinely care about our patients, faculty, students and my co-workers and would be honored to represent you, my fellow employees, on the Employee Advisory Council.
