Mary Ann Hellinghausen
Mary Ann is a senior communications specialist in the Office of Marketing and Communications, with a focus on preparing communications for Executive Leadership, particularly for the President. She writes articles promoting UTMB for internal and external publications, takes photographs and provides writing support for Marketing and Development. She came to UTMB in March 2011.
Mary Ann has extensive experience in journalism, public affairs and marketing. She has been a reporter for the Houston Chronicle, Waco Tribune-Herald and Bay Area Citizen. She has worked with other health care organizations in marketing/public affairs, and has written as a freelancer for the Greater Houston Partnership, Bay Area Houston Economic Partnership, NurseWeek and HealthWeek magazines, and others. She also has been published in Highlights for Children magazine.
Mary Ann has a Bachelor of Journalism from the University of Texas at Austin. She has been involved in the Clear Lake/Galveston County community through Communities in the Schools, Go Red for Women, American Heart Association, A Visit from Saint Nicholas and as a pastoral council member at St. Clare of Assisi Catholic Church. Her hobbies include tennis and reading. She and her husband have two daughters, one in graduate school and one in college.
