The National Institutes of Health (NIH) has introduced a new policy enhancing public access to reports of research funded with Institute awards. Effective on May 2,2005, the policy urges authors to submit an electronic version of the final corrected manuscript to PubMedCentral (PMC) the online archive of journal articles maintained by the National Library of Medicine (NLM), itself an NIH division. The policy is voluntary, and extends only to articles in professional journals. It resulted from intense discussions among the interested parties extending from the spring of 2004 through February of 2005. The text of the policy, along with background material, public comments and NIH replies can be found on the Institute’s page: www.nih.gov
Monthly Archives: May 2005
LibraryLink connects past and present.
The Moody Medical Library (MML) is re-launching LibraryLink (LL), the previous email information service, as a weblog, or blog. The focus will be on trends in scholarly publication, academic libraries and other information services, as they develop in this period of rapid change. There will be news about MML services, discussions of trends in academic publication, notes on new technologies and their impact. Matters arising in the arenas of law, public policy and government will be noted as they affect academic publication. In the PAGES section, LL will try to develop a series of “backgrounders†to supplement the POSTS, and supply context. Check LibraryLink frequently, and be in the picture!
