Beginning Wednesday, January 16, join UTMB Health System executive leadership for a series of Lunch & Learns that will provide an in-depth look at our major areas of focus for improvement, as well as the areas in which we are outperforming many of our academic medical center peers.

Teaching Skills Workshop | February 20, 2019 | Strategies to Mitigate Cognitive Bias in Clinical Settings
This workshop will offer case-based discussions from various inpatient clinical medicine specialties to illustrate a multitude of common biases in action. Participants will learn to identify biases, develop mindful practices, and utilize evidence-based tools to overcome cognitive bias in the clinical setting. They will also have the opportunity to apply their newly acquired tools on a clinical case.
At the conclusion of the workshop, participants will be able to:
Describe the concept of cognitive bias.
Reflect how diagnostic cognitive bias impacts clinical decisions and leads to medical errors.
Apply curricular strategies to teach yourself and your learners to recognize cognitive bias.

Health Policy Dialogue and Lunch by Dr. Susan McLellan
Please join the Office of the President, and the Office of Health Policy and Legislative Affairs for this Health Policy Dialogue on Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2019 at noon in the Levin Hall Dining Room. Dr. Susan McLellan, Professor, Department of Internal Medicine, Medical Director, Biocontainment Treatment Unit, Director, Biosafety for Research-related Infectious Pathogens, will present, “UTMB’s Biocontainment Unit: Who We Are, Why We Are, Where We Fit in the Global Scheme.” Lunch begins serving at 11:30 a.m. Lecture begins at noon.
