The NIH Director Francis S. Collins, M.D., Ph.D., shared the following today in his Directors Blog.

One Truth – The Video

A leading expert on using genomic data to uncover clues about the origin and evolution of emerging viruses, including Ebola, and six scientists from West Africa, have also proven to be very talented music and video stars.  Pardis Sabeti, MD, DPhil, an NIH-funded New Innovator at the Broad Institute of Harvard and Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in Cambridge, MA, turned to music when a colleague in Sierra Leone with whom she had been working closely fell ill and died from Ebola.  Dr. Sabeti  spends her spare time as lead singer for the Indie rock band A Thousand Days.  She asked the African Researchers in Boston for the Human Health and Heredity in Africa (H3Africa) this summer to perform with her in memory of those researchers working for a cure and those who have died from Ebola while tending to others.  She and her bandmates have this message for all who watch their music video:  “We hope that we let our world not be defined by destruction of one virus, but illuminated by billions of hearts and minds together ‘in this fight always.’”
